When to do the Plumbing Yourself and When to Call a Professional Plumber
Nothing challenges a person like a puzzle they cannot solve. That is why so many people take the opportunity to solve any dilemma themselves, because they want to be the ones to put the puzzle together.
One of the most difficult and time consuming puzzles to decipher is actually your plumbing. Surprised? Plumbing can in fact be a difficult and intricate system. Its damages can range from being a simple repair to a cry for help. People often ask the question, “When should I do the plumbing myself?” The answer to that question depends on what needs to be repaired and how bad the damage is. It also depends on you. Do you think yourself capable of actually fixing the problems? If you do not than you are better off calling a professional plumber to assess the situation.
Do not insist on a DIY project, a.k.a. “do it yourself” when you truly do not know the state of repair that your plumbing may need. Often times the people who pick that path at a fork road usually end up in the beginning. How many times has your father or husband strapped on a tool belt and claim they can fix the damage? And how many times have they asked you to call the plumber because Noah’s Ark appeared in your flooded basement a week later due to a cracked pipe? You should save yourself the trouble and call an expert that way you will not end up at square one.
Many people believe that if you complete the task yourself you will save money. There are two sides to that belief. If you are an experienced do-it-yourself plumber or simply just an average Joe who happens to know a lot about plumbing, than go for it. If you are fully capable of patching up the problem, then by all means fasten your tool belt and go “Home Depot” on your bathroom. Now, if you do not know what to do and figure that by reading a manual or using an internet website as a guide as a way of getting the job done, you should rethink that. The latter approach at times can be very costly.
Just think about it. You are not aware of the damages that have taken place in your plumbing system, so you reason that you can resolve the issue yourself regardless of lack of prior knowledge about plumbing. You go out, buy the supplies that the internet based website lists and you try it out. Your attempt made no significant solution and now your pipes are orchestrating shrieking sounds in your walls. That is about the time you pick up the phone and decide that maybe contacting a professional plumber is best. So not only did you not repair the problem, but you actually made it worse. And to top it off, you wasted money on supplies and now have to pay extra for the plumber.
Remember, plumbing is a difficult puzzle to solve; each piece has to fit in perfectly. So unless you know your stuff, call an experienced plumber to get the job done.
