In order to find out if the faucet is leaking hot or cold water, simply feel the drips. Then turn off the water supply. This is done by shutting of the turn-off valve which is usually located under the sink. The next step is to remove the knob where the leak is from, the hot or cold water, and unscrew the valve. Check and replace the components, including any washers that may look worn-out and put the knob back on. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. It’s as simple as that!
Is the toilet making noise? Water bills can sky-rocket if there are running toilets. Usually when this happens it is time to either replace the flapper or the flapper is not seated properly. This is also an easy fix. Start off by removing the tank cover and scrubbing around the area that the flapper rests on with a nylon sponge. Now check to see if the toilet has stopped running. This will eliminate any sediment that may impede the flapper from setting correctly. If removing the sediment did not work, then it is time to replace the flapper. These are sold at home improvement stores and are very simple to install. Just follow the installation instructions included with the flapper. You’ve fixed the plumbing yourself!
